Study of antioxidants and oxidants in malnourished children Clinical Trials Facts presented on Clinical Trials Search isn't designed to be a substitute for proven healthcare advice, calls or treatment by using a genuine medical doctor. We aren't mDs. Always confer with your doctor on Study of antioxidants and oxidants in malnourished children conditions. Clinical Trials Search.org is a website devoted to listing clinical research studies in human subjects. Study of antioxidants and oxidants in malnourished children Clinical research trials and Study of antioxidants and oxidants in malnourished children healthcare trials occur in a lot of of places across the United States. A clinical trial or clinical study is a research project with human volunteer subjects. Clinical drug trials and pharmaceutical clinical trials generally assess the effectivity of new does drugs. The role of the studies / undertakings is to solve specific human healthcare questions. Clinical trials are a popular way for doctors, government agencies, and private sector companies to find treatments for all kinds of conditions, including Study of antioxidants and oxidants in malnourished children. Study of antioxidants and oxidants in malnourished children Clinical Trials and other clinical trials allow for volunteers to access health treatment choices before they are available to the general public. Many times the test subjects get treatment for without cost, and sometimes they are compensated for their time. Occasionally there is a cost for a Study of antioxidants and oxidants in malnourished children clinical trial. Test subjects typically receive the most effective healthcare possible for their Study of antioxidants and oxidants in malnourished children condition. Risks are a reality, nonetheless, and could include extra or frequent dr. calls, health hazards (perhaps life-jeopardizing), and/or the treatment being ineffective. Trials are federally regulated with rigid guidelines to protect clinical trials subjects.

Study of antioxidants and oxidants in malnourished children

Study of antioxidants and oxidants in malnourished children

For Condition: Kwashiorkor,Marasmus,Protein-Energy Malnutrition
Status: Recruiting
Sponsor(s): National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK) ,
Synopsis: It is believed that the organs of severely malnourished children malfunction because harmful compounds called oxidants injure the tissues in these organs. In a healthy person oxidants are made harmless because another compound called glutathione neutralizes them. Glutathione is made from three amino acids that we get from the protein we eat in our food. We found that malnourished children were not making enough glutathione because they lacked one of these amino acids called cysteine. In this study we determine why malnourished children do not have sufficient cysteine, and we will feed malnourished children a whey-based diet which is rich in cysteine during their treatment to determine whether they will make more glutathione. This in turn may make their organs recover faster. These findings will let us know whether malnourished children can recover faster if they are given more cysteine during the early phase of treatment.
