Immunologic aspects of the pathogenesis of chronic sinusitis in children Clinical Trials Information presented on Clinical Trials Search isn't intended to be a substitute for proven healthcare advice, trips or treatment using a real physician. We are not docs. Always confer with your mD on Immunologic aspects of the pathogenesis of chronic sinusitis in children conditions. Clinical Trials Search.org is a site dedicated to listing clinical research studies in human subjects. Immunologic aspects of the pathogenesis of chronic sinusitis in children Clinical research trials and Immunologic aspects of the pathogenesis of chronic sinusitis in children medical trials take place in hundreds of localities across the U.S.. A clinical trial or clinical study is a research project with human volunteer subjects. Clinical drug trials and pharmaceutical clinical trials usually measure the effectiveness of new drugs. The intention of the studies / projects is to resolve certain human health questions. Clinical trials are a popular means for physicians, government agencies, and private sector corporations to detect remedies for all forms of circumstances, like Immunologic aspects of the pathogenesis of chronic sinusitis in children. Immunologic aspects of the pathogenesis of chronic sinusitis in children Clinical Trials and other clinical trials allow for volunteers to undergo healthcare treatment options before they are available to the masses. Most times the participants receive treatment for free, and every now and again they are paid for their time. Occasionally there is a cost for a Immunologic aspects of the pathogenesis of chronic sinusitis in children clinical trial. Subjects typically recieve the finest healthcare available for their Immunologic aspects of the pathogenesis of chronic sinusitis in children condition. Hazards are a reality, nonetheless, and might include more or frequent mD trips, health risks (potentially life-endangering), and/or the treatment being ineffective. Trials are federally regulated with stern guidelines to protect clinical trials subjects.

Immunologic aspects of the pathogenesis of chronic sinusitis in children

For Condition: Sinusitis
Status: Completed
Sponsor(s): National Center for Research Resources (NCRR) ,
Synopsis: Chronic sinusitis is a common pediatric disease; it ranks among the top five infectious diseases of the upper respiratory tract. Its treatment is limited and may be due largely in part to a lack of understanding of its cause. The investigators have preliminary data to support the notion that pediatric chronic sinusitis is a distinct disease, different from acute sinusitis and adult chronic sinusitis. We are proposing to perform pathogenesis studies in children with chronic sinusitis. Specifically, we wish to elucidate the microbiologic features and immunologic factors involved in the formation of this disease. The study plan calls for microbiologic (bacterial, viral, and fungal) and immunologic (inflammatory mediators and leukocyte populations) data to be evaluated through a maxillary sinus washing and mucosal biopsies. Four populations will be studied and they are: 10 children with chronic sinusitis, 5 children with acute sinusitis (positive control), 5 children without sinusitis (negative control) and 5 adults with chronic sinusitis (positive secondary control).
