Genome Scan for Obesity in a Multi-Ethnic Sample Clinical Trials Information presented on Clinical Trials Search isn't designed to be a substitute for certified healthcare advice, travels to or professional assistance using a genuine medical doctor. We are not physicians. Always confer with your dr. about Genome Scan for Obesity in a Multi-Ethnic Sample conditions. Clinical Trials Search.org is a site devoted to listing clinical research studies in human subjects. Genome Scan for Obesity in a Multi-Ethnic Sample Clinical research trials and Genome Scan for Obesity in a Multi-Ethnic Sample medical trials happen in hundreds of places across the United States. A clinical trial or clinical study is a research project with human volunteer subjects. Clinical drug trials and pharmaceutical clinical trials usually measure the effectualness of new drugs. The intention of the studies / undertakings is to solve certain human healthcare questions. Clinical trials are a popular manner for mDs, government agencies, and private sector companies to locate treatments for all forms of circumstances, such as Genome Scan for Obesity in a Multi-Ethnic Sample. Genome Scan for Obesity in a Multi-Ethnic Sample Clinical Trials and other clinical trials allow for volunteers to undergo medical treatment choices before they are available to the general public. Some times the human subjects get treatment for free of charge, and sometimes they are paid for their time. Occasionally there is a cost for a Genome Scan for Obesity in a Multi-Ethnic Sample clinical trial. Participants frequently get the best healthcare available for their Genome Scan for Obesity in a Multi-Ethnic Sample condition. Risks are a reality, nonetheless, and can include extra or frequent physician trips, medical risks (possibly life-jeopardising), and/or the treatment being ineffective. Trials are federally governed with exacting guidelines to protect clinical trials subjects.

Genome Scan for Obesity in a Multi-Ethnic Sample
For Condition: Cardiovascular Diseases,Heart Diseases,Obesity
Status: Completed
Sponsor(s): National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) ,
Synopsis: To scan the genome for obesity in a multi-ethnic sample.
Details: BACKGROUND: Despite intensive efforts the genetic basis of obesity has been difficult to establish. Linkage analysis using a genome-wide scan can potentially identify genomic regions not previously thought to be associated with susceptibility to obesity and provides a comprehensive test of the consistency of previous studies. The study used the considerable resources generated by the four cooperating networks in the NHLBI-supported "Family Blood Pressure Program" (FBPP) to conduct a genome-wide scan data for obesity. DESIGN NARRATIVE: In the Family Blood Pressure Program, microsatellite markers were typed at a density of -10cM by the Mammalian Genotyping Service (MGS) in Marshfield, WI. The complete data set was to include 9,940 individuals representing 4 ethnic groups (white, black, Hispanic and Asian). Obesity was characterized as a weight/height ratio (body mass index) and waist/hip ratio. This data set was larger than any prior genome scan for obesity, and the inclusion of multiple ethnic groups made it possible to examine genetic heterogeneity. The specific aims of the study were to conduct linkage and association analyses to localize regions influencing obesity. Investigators worked closely with the FBPP Coordinating Center (Washington University, St. Louis) and investigators from each of the four FBPP networks. Evidence was sought for consistency between results obtained from analyses of the genome scan performed by each of the individuals, and results summarized from the literature, with those found in meta-analysis.
