Coronary Screening in a High Risk Subset Clinical Trials References presented on Clinical Trials Search is not intended to be a substitute for proven healthcare advice, trips or professional assistance by using a real medical. We aren't mDs. Always confer with your physician about Coronary Screening in a High Risk Subset conditions. Clinical Trials Search.org is a website devoted to listing clinical research studies in human subjects. Coronary Screening in a High Risk Subset Clinical research trials and Coronary Screening in a High Risk Subset medical trials take place in hundreds of localities across the U.S.. A clinical trial or clinical study is a research project with human volunteer subjects. Clinical drug trials and pharmaceutical clinical trials usually evaluate the effectualness of new does drugs. The purpose of the studies / projects is to solve specific human health questions. Clinical trials are a popular way for physicians, government agencies, and private sector companies to discover treatments for all sorts of conditions, such as Coronary Screening in a High Risk Subset. Coronary Screening in a High Risk Subset Clinical Trials and other clinical trials permit volunteers to access healthcare treatment choices before they are available to the general public. Some times the subjects recieve professional assistance for without cost, and every now and again they are compensated for their time. Sometimes there is a cost for a Coronary Screening in a High Risk Subset clinical trial. Subjects often receive the most expert healthcare possible for their Coronary Screening in a High Risk Subset condition. Risks are a reality, nevertheless, and could include additional or frequent dr. calls, healthcare dangers (perhaps life-jeopardising), and/or the treatment being ineffective. Trials are federally governed with stern guidelines to protect clinical trials subjects.

Coronary Screening in a High Risk Subset

Coronary Screening in a High Risk Subset

For Condition: Cardiovascular Diseases,Coronary Disease,Heart Diseases
Status: Completed
Sponsor(s): National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) ,
Synopsis: To test the hypothesis that the incidence of coronary heart disease and cardiovascular mortality could be accurately predicted by the presence of coronary calcific deposits detected by cardiac fluoroscopy.
Details: BACKGROUND: Because of its low cost and non-invasive nature, fluoroscopy was thought to be a potentially powerful screening tool for coronary heart disease if its efficiency could be demonstrated. The utility of exercise testing for screening had been limited by its relatively low sensitivity since it could only detect atherosclerotic plaque large enough to significantly impede coronary flow. DESIGN NARRATIVE: Asymptomatic high risk subjects were screened with cardiac fluoroscopy and exercise testing at baseline and followed for six years with annual visits. The sensitivity and specificity of fluoroscopy in relation to the incidence of coronary heart disease and the incidence of cardiovascular mortality was determined and compared at 3.5 and 6 years of follow-up. The predictive utility of fluoroscopy and exercise testing, in relation to the incidence of coronary events, was assessed by logistic regression analysis. Multivariate analysis was also performed on baseline risk factors.
