Brain Irradiation in Treating Patients With Limited-Stage Small Cell Lung Cancer Clinical Trials Data presented on Clinical Trials Search isn't meant to be a substitute for qualified health advice, calls or treatment using a genuine doctor. We are not docs. Always consult your dr. on Brain Irradiation in Treating Patients With Limited-Stage Small Cell Lung Cancer conditions. Clinical Trials Search.org is a site dedicated to listing clinical research studies in human subjects. Brain Irradiation in Treating Patients With Limited-Stage Small Cell Lung Cancer Clinical research trials and Brain Irradiation in Treating Patients With Limited-Stage Small Cell Lung Cancer healthcare trials occur in a lot of of places throughout the United States. A clinical trial or clinical study is a research project with human volunteer subjects. Clinical drug trials and pharmaceutical clinical trials generally assess the potency of new drugs. The intent of the studies / undertakings is to figure out certain human medical questions. Clinical trials are a popular means for mDs, government agencies, and private sector corporations to locate remedies for all kinds of circumstances, including Brain Irradiation in Treating Patients With Limited-Stage Small Cell Lung Cancer. Brain Irradiation in Treating Patients With Limited-Stage Small Cell Lung Cancer Clinical Trials and other clinical trials allow volunteers to obtain health treatment alternatives before they are available to the masses. Many times the participants undergo treatment for free, and sometimes they are paid for their time. Occasionally there is a cost for a Brain Irradiation in Treating Patients With Limited-Stage Small Cell Lung Cancer clinical trial. Participants typically obtain the most effective healthcare available for their Brain Irradiation in Treating Patients With Limited-Stage Small Cell Lung Cancer condition. Dangers are a reality, nonetheless, and can include extra or frequent mD trips, medical hazards (potentially life-endangering), and/or the treatment being uneffective. Trials are federally regulated with rigid guidelines to protect clinical trials patients.

Brain Irradiation in Treating Patients With Limited-Stage Small Cell Lung Cancer

Brain Irradiation in Treating Patients With Limited-Stage Small Cell Lung Cancer

For Condition: limited stage small cell lung cancer
Status: Recruiting
Sponsor(s): Radiation Therapy Oncology Group , National Cancer Institute (NCI)
Synopsis: RATIONALE: Radiation therapy uses high-energy x-rays to damage tumor cells. It is not yet known which radiation therapy regimen is more effective in preventing brain metastases in patients with limited-stage small cell lung cancer. PURPOSE: Randomizedphase II/III trial to compare the effectiveness of three brain irradiation regimens in preventing brain metastases in patients who have limited-stage small cell lung cancer.
Details: OBJECTIVES: - Compare the incidence of brain metastases in patients with limited stage small cell lung cancer treated with different regimens of prophylactic cranial irradiation. - Compare the overall and disease-free survival of patients treated with these regimens. - Compare the incidence of chronic neurotoxicity in patients treated with these regimens. - Compare quality of life and late treatment sequelae of patients treated with these regimens. OUTLINE: This is a randomized, multicenter study. Patients are stratified according to age (60 and under vs over 60) and time since induction therapy (90 days or less vs 91-180 days vs 181-240 days). Patients are randomized to 1 of 3 treatment arms. - Arm I: Patients undergo prophylactic cranial irradiation (PCI) once daily 5 days a week. Treatment continues for 2 weeks in the absence of unacceptable toxicity. - Arm II: Patients undergo PCI once daily 5 days a week. Treatment continues for 2.6 weeks in the absence of unacceptable toxicity. - Arm III: Patients undergo PCI twice daily 5 days a week. Treatment continues for 3.4 weeks in the absence of unacceptable toxicity. Quality of life is assessed at baseline, every 6 months for 1 year, and then annually for 3 years. Patients are followed every 6 months for 1 year and then annually for 3 years. PROJECTED ACCRUAL: A total of 264 patients will be accrued for this study within 3.5 years.
